Everyone likes an underdog story. We all can relate on a certain level to the experience of overcoming the odds to achieve a goal. It is those victories that seem to taste sweeter. For Rodney Simmons, that revolved around building a pure RV repair model that is focused on helping owners get maximum enjoyment of their RV. He aimed to accomplish this with integrity and a high level of expertise. He made a simple start with one truck. A journey of 28 years began with that truck and that man. To provide perspective on life the year Blue moon RV started, smartphones were not even a thing and Blockbuster video was the place to go to rent videos. Much has changed since then. Blue Moon RV has assisted over 100,000 RV owners and commercial operators. Even more impressive is that 80% of our customers use only Blue Moon RV Time and again.
Blue Moon Mobile RV began in 1996 with one small truck and one service technician. Through determination and honoring our words with actions, we have become the go-to on-site RV service in all of northern Texas. Our RV service trucks, manned by certified and master-certified RV technicians, provide RV repair to all areas of northern central Texas including Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Arlington, Denton, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, North Lake, Keller, Grapevine, Trophy Club, Prosper, and many outlying cities.

Rod Rod da RV Gawd
Rodney began his career over 40 years ago and has been a technician at such notable service stand outs such as Foretravel and Buddy Gregg. He is a colorful character with a complete inability to do anything halfheartedly. He has a true passion for RV’s and their owners. He is a fan favorite because of the time he spends with each client. If Rodney is working on your RV, which he still does at a spry 64, you will get calls from him updating you. He is the guy who always reads the manual, terms, conditions, and fine print. He doesn’t just read these details. He understands them. This attention to detail doesn’t slow him down at all!
If you have met him, you know that he goes 100 miles per hour all the time.
After using his mechanical aptitude in the oil field as a young man, he transitioned to the RV industry with only a bag of tools. The work suited him well and the endless supply of puzzles that is RV repair challenged him in a special way. He sought out training in every form. Rodney has been recognized as an expert witness in Texas and Florida. He served as past chair of the education committee for the Texas Recreational Vehicle Association (TRVA). He positioned Blue Moon RV as early subject matter experts by earning Dometic service center of the year and becoming an authorized service center for every manufacturer of systems found on most RV’s. Beyond that he worked to gain an expert understanding of electrical, hydraulics, plumbing, construction, power generation, HVAC, and much more.
Rodney was raised in West Texas and tagged along with his grandad to his first oil well at 7 years old. He comes from a very mechanical family. He lived in Alpine, Terlingua, Midland, Houston, and Dallas. Rodney is a family man with 4 grandchildren, 2 daughters, and one stepson. Anything he does, he does as a master. He is an excellent gardener, the king of the grill and breakfast, the world’s best home maintenance man, and science geek. This character never stops working to improve and learn, even taking up guitar in his 60’s.

Along the way he added some key players who shared his passion and helped build Blue Moon RV.
DOL Administrative Director
The goddess of spreadsheets & overthinking
Abby has been a member of Blue Moon RV for 8 years. Her journey joining Blue Moon RV is part love story and part crash course in small business. After Rodney and Abby fell in love, they found they shared many dreams, values and aptitudes. At the same time, they had differing experiences and skills that complimented each other.
Not having experience in the RV industry, she began as an office manager and service coordinator for Blue Moon RV while she learned the ropes. Abby shared Rodney’s curiosity and love of learning. The awesome team at Blue Moon RV crammed her brain full of all the RV & small business knowledge needed to jump in. Since then, she has worked to refine and execute the full vision of Blue Moon RV. When Abby asked Rodney to define what she does in a nutshell, he answered she was the gyroscope. After a brief internet search and some reading, she acknowledged it was a good metaphor and not Rodney getting fresh. Basically, whatever is going on, it is her job to keep us on course. Her responsibilities as Director of Operations include recruiting, HR, Department of Labor Administrative Director, (DOL 22020-TX-78777), process development & implementation, Moonshiner program oversight, accounts payables, marketing, and software implementation, but most important she works with our team to pass along Rodney’s values of expertise and honesty while creating a culture employees find fulfilling, growth oriented, and fun. She considers the team her proudest accomplishment.
The PhD of all things RV
Robert joined Blue Moon RV over 25 years ago as a mobile tech. A Steamboat Springs, CO native and son of an appliance repairman, Robert transitioned well to RV repair. As a child he tagged along with his father who served multiple counties. While most kids played with toys, Robert played with and could use a multimeter. Like many at Blue Moon RV, he is an RV guru of the highest order. If you ask Robert a question, be prepared for the complete answer. It is for this reason we still use him to assist with informing us on complex repairs. Robert is where we go for the hard questions. He is also a customer favorite for parts sourcing and advising.
Robert is a generous individual at work and at home. He serves his church by implementing their audio-visual program and is there weekly to man it. He is married to his college sweetheart and love of his life.

Jaxon Jackson
Funny story about his one. At one point Rodney had to have rotator cuff surgery and was seeing a physical therapist. One cold winter day Rodney wore a ridiculous beardo stocking cap to PT and after enduring a brutal session, a young man walks over to his therapist. This young man was her husband, an Australian export and boilermaker by trade. Rodney, who has an eye for talent told this young chap to stop by and interview because he could use the help. Somehow Jaxon, (the young chap), was either intrigued enough or desperate enough to follow up and we are so glad he did! Not all of us would go check out a job working for a guy who wears a beardo. Jaxon started the apprentice program when the curriculum was only 1 page. It now spans an entire excel workbook and is facilitgated with a Google Classroom. At his official graduation, he had approximately 5000 hours of contact time and every certification available.
Jaxon’s work is impeccable. We say he disappears to Narnia and shows up at day’s end after having been very productive. Many of our most complex repairs are spearheaded by him. He also is a highly experienced boilermaker, (a four-year degree in Australia). He is the mentor that the newbies go to after Adrian gently and patiently gives them the basics. When they get promoted to Jaxon, the rubber meets the road. While Jaxon is “No worries, mate” about many things, he takes his work very seriously. One thing we all noticed about Jaxon was he was willing to learn from all the mentors and even learned which was the best place to go for information. This behavior served to accelerate his learning and mastery.

The Tonic
When you are building a team, leadership can make or break you. Adrian had the perfect combination of people and technical skills. He has the drive and motivation to have started as a detailer of RVs, then a porter, and eventually a technician. He did not stop there. He continued his advancement until he became a Service Manager. He has worked in the industry for over 18 years. What adds to his value is his nonstop drive to learn and over deliver with results. He leans into the process of evolving his skills and is the picture of accountability. He is respected and liked by his team and trusted by Rodney & Abby. His responsibilities are many, but he carries it off with grace.
At Blue Moon RV, we tailored the role around his skills, and he serves our team as a mentor & working service manager. His steady and patient personality is where all newbies start. He has most apprentices prepared to move beyond the basics and to their 2nd mentor within 6 months.
He is a proud father of two and even a grandfather. When he is not working, he plays for multiple softball teams and is an avid hunter & fisherman.

True Grit
Over the years our clients have played a part in helping us connect with some of our key team members. Anissa reached out to us and interviewed while considering how to enter a career in the trades. In her first interview, she mentioned that she had looked at starting a degree in automotive technology. I asked the cost, and she said $30,000! I responded, “how do you feel about being paid to train instead?” That was a no brainer. She was quiet and reserved at first, but only at first.
Don’t get us wrong, she had a new toolbox on day two, attacked the work during the hottest months of the year without batting an eye and helped her mentor by anticipating his needs- she just did not come out of her shell right away. One summer day the stress and heat of RV repair brought out the gritty humor that is still legendary to this day. We are happy to announce that less than 3 years later, she has completed all Level two apprentice materials and certifications as well as part of level 3. She has also worked as our Service advisor for 1 year to gain valuable experience. She is now back full time in the shop as a Level III Apprentice where she is happiest. We believe her pioneering spirit is admirable and we are delighted to be a part of her journey to achieving her dream.

Daniel son
One trend we have recently noticed in our applicants is they are starting to include individuals who worked in totally different fields. Jeremy was a mortgage originator who clearly had the smarts and drive to become a technician. As our newest hire, he endeared himself quickly due to his dedication and work ethic. I have yet to hear him complain. From day one he made it clear he was here to learn, for the long haul and to be useful in any way he could. He does not consider himself above any task. This is an exceptional trait in an employee.
He enjoys riding his motorcycle, watching professional sports and gaming.

Zach – The Machine
Our new team additions have us very excited about the future. We work and train to have the best technicians. Those technicians and our clients deserve the best support staff. Working service is a demanding role requiring a diverse set of skills and experience. Zach is a pillar of self-discipline and accountability. He is the guy that checks all the boxes. Personality, intelligence, organization, client communication and more. We are confident our clients will see the same positive attributes we do. After all, our clients are who we strive to please.
While one of our newest team members, he fit in right away. Mo quickly claimed him as her workday human- maybe it is all the cookies.
When not working, Zach enjoys working out and traveling with his wife
One of the most difficult things to find in our field is a technician who has verifiable experience and an ongoing commitment to learn every skill needed to be the best. He was a mentor technician at a dealership before making the decision to move to Blue Moon RV.
Michael showed up on day one ready to demonstrate his skills. In his short time at Blue Moon RV, we have sent him to Truma technician training and Dometic dealer training.
He is also certified by the Texas Railroad Commission to work on propane. In house, he also completed multiple LCI/Lippert online trainings.
He is the proud papa of one super cool kiddo and is an avid mountain biker that rides every morning before work.
Rodent inspection officer
We already disclosed we do things differently so it should come as no surprise just how diverse our team is. Mo has been at Blue Moon RV every day of her life for 9 years. While she has a bold personality, she loves her team passionately. She found her place supporting our Service team in the office. She has a residence under Zack’s desk. She can perform inspections to locate possible rodent issues with 100% accuracy. She does this work for dog treats, which makes it a great value for clients.
Our canine team members are personality opposites. Everybody that has two dogs seems to have one that is sensible as to possible danger and acts accordingly. The other dog seems wired to self-destruction. Ours are also different regarding energy levels. Mo could fuel a small city while Oz divides his day into different naps. He joined Blue Moon RV shortly after Mo. Simply put, he was a free puppy that stole Abby’s heart.
Therefore, Oz is usually at Abby’s feet. We have found his vet bill has a direct correlation to the distance he was from her.
